Position Summary 

Maintain administrative and clinical responsibility for the Counseling Center Clinical Training Program.  Assist in oversight and management of Counseling Center. Conduct individual, group and couple’s counseling, crisis assessment and intervention, and mental health consultations. Provide outreach programming on a variety of mental health issues to support the college’s mission and goals.   

The Counseling Center team works closely together to responding to the mental health and well-being needs of the diverse student body at Fort Lewis College (FLC), a Native American-serving institution located in Durango, Colorado. Minimum Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated extensive involvement with, and understanding of Native American, Black, Asian, Latinx, veteran, disabled and/or LGBTQIA+ communities  
  • Master’s degree in mental health field (counseling, counselor education, social work, etc.)  
  • Minimum of five years post-master’s experience in mental health counseling  
  • Training and experience in the provision of clinical supervision  
  • Licensed as mental health professional in the state of Colorado or licensed in another state and eligible for CO licensure within 3 months  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Minimum of one year experience in college or university counseling services  
  • Experience in brief therapy models (DBT, ACT, solution focused therapy, brief dynamic therapy, etc.)  
  • Substance use disorder treatment experience  
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with and respond to multiple constituencies both at the college and in the community  
  • Administrative experience  
  • Bilingual or multilingual counseling skills  

Major Responsibilities 

  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities   
  • Recruit, hire and manage interns for the Clinical Training Program, including developing and overseeing remediation plans as needed.   
  • Facilitate weekly training group activities, to include group supervision, case review, group process, culturally responsive seminar, guest speakers, live-stream psychiatric consultations, etc.  
  • In collaboration with staff, train and oversee mental health trainees in the daily operations including clinical documentation, use of electronic health records, scheduling, crisis protocol, and all policies & procedures.   
  • Coordinate supervision of trainees with Counseling Center staff, and ensure consistency within the supervisor/trainee program. Provide training for supervisors as needed (in collaboration with Director).  
  • Oversee and maintain all Counseling Center records pertinent to trainees’ volunteer employment and performance.  
  • Liaise with trainees’ field placement offices as needed.  
  • Conduct individual/group/couple’s counseling, behavioral assessments, same-day triage/walk-in sessions, crisis assessments and interventions, and consultations to staff/faculty/parents.  
  • Provide outreach programming, mental health workshops, and consultations to campus community.  
  • Collaborate with FLC Wellness Peer Advisory Council’s Peer Support Office to support training of undergraduate peer consultants.  
  • Maintain all relevant ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice for the State of Colorado.  
  • Keep accurate and timely computerized records on all contacts with and on behalf of clients.  
  • Participate in college and community committees as assigned by Director.  
  • Maintain knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.  
  • Produce and remediate digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.  
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The salary for this position is $62,000 – $72,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package. This is a 12-month, full-time position.
