Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director of Training (ADT) is responsible for overseeing both the day-to-day operations of and strategic planning for all elements of the University Counseling Center (UCC) training program. The training program includes a master’s level counseling internship/doctoral practicum. There is also the expectation of developing additional training programs for social work students and/or doctoral psychology students. The ADT is a member of the UCC Leadership Team and assists with leadership of the UCC and its offices. The ADT also provides administrative and clinical supervision and consultation to UCC staff. The ADT provides culturally responsive short-term counseling/therapy and crisis services to students, and consultation and outreach to all members of the Wake Forest University community. The University Counseling Center (UCC) is focused on providing equitable and inclusive services to the campus community.
Job Description

Essential Functions:

Provides leadership for, and administrative oversight of the entire UCC training program, including organizing and leading relevant committees and work groups.
Coordinates all functions of the training program, including the annual selection process, orientation, individual clinical supervision, and weeklseminars/supervision meetings for master’s and doctoral interns.
Coordinates and oversees clinical supervision of trainees within the scope of the training program, including managing supervisory assignments.
Coordinates the evaluation of all interns and monitors intern progress during the training year. Coordinates continuing education for staff related to clinical supervision. Responsible for developing and maintaining an APA accreditation and APPIC membership of a psychology internship program. Provides individual and group counseling/therapy, crisis intervention and consultation for WFU students. Makes decisions regarding referral of clients to outside agencies. Provides after-hours on-call crisis counseling on a rotating basis, and occasional after-hours outreach as needed. Provides consultation and professional advice to all members of the University community. Provides clinical and administrative supervision to clinical staff as needed. Provides seminars, workshops, and training for the WFU community.
Keeps timely, accurate, and ethical records consistent with UCC policy.
Partners with the UCC Leadership Team to assess the utilization, efficacy, and impact of the training program through quantitative and qualitative methods. Works collaboratively both within the Health & Wellbeing team and across other departments as members of the Division of Campus Life to ensure delivery of integrated professional services consistent with the mission and strategic directions of Campus Life.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology from APA-accredited program.
Licensed or license eligible as a psychologist in the state of North Carolina within 6 months of hire. Minimum of three years of professional (post-graduate) experience providing clinical services. Minimum of two years of experience providing clinical supervision to trainees and/or staff. Knowledge of clinical training program functioning. Knowledge of a broad range of psychotherapy and counseling methods.
Knowledge of and ability to use crisis intervention skills. Ability to use independent judgment and manage confidential information. Ability to practice good consultation skills both within and outside of the University. Ability to effectively facilitate workshops, training, and seminars. Excellent communication skills, both (oral and written); strong interpersonal skills. Ability to organize and manage projects. Knowledge of relevant technology. Ability to work in a leadership position with a high degree of autonomy, reliability, and ethical decision-making.
