Assistant Professor (38 views)

The Department of Psychological Science at Boise State University (https://psychology.boisestate.edu/) invites interested applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2019. The area of degree specialization is open, however, teaching and research interests should be aligned with a departmental priority on human development, family, and community studies.

We are seeking a dedicated teacher and researcher to support our existing undergraduate curriculum, as well as to assist in the development of a proposed master’s degree program in applied developmental science. The successful candidate will have the ability to engage students in the classroom and laboratory, as well as partners in the community. This is a nine-month tenure track position, with opportunities for salary enhancement through summer teaching and work on externally-funded research projects.

The Department of Psychological Science boasts a highly interdisciplinary faculty with a strong history of success in teaching, research, and service. We have active, flourishing relationships with organizations in the community, including state agencies, hospitals, schools, and a variety of non-profit organizations. These relationships offer rich research and service opportunities, as well as student engagement through internships and other professional development opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Candidates should have the potential for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The standard teaching load is three courses per semester, with possible reductions for teaching large classes or working on externally-funded research projects.
  • Teaching interests should include statistics and measurement, in teaching settings appropriate for both undergraduate (i.e., large classroom) and graduate (i.e., seminar) settings.
  • Be willing to teach other courses (e.g., introductory or research methods courses) as departmental needs require.
  • Maintain an active program of research that involves undergraduate and graduate research assistants. Such research should be sufficient to produce, on average, one peer-reviewed publication each year.
  • Engage in appropriate service activities benefiting the Department, College of Arts and Sciences, and University, as well as those benefiting the local community, state, and region.

At a minimum you should have:

  • An earned doctorate in Psychology or a very closely related field by August 1, 2019.

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated evidence or potential for excellence in teaching, research, and service.
  • A research focus on human development, family, or community studies.
  • A desire to help build the department’s proposed graduate program in applied developmental science.
  • The ability and willingness to teach a graduate statistics course, using advanced statistical methods appropriate in applied developmental science.

Interested applicants should electronically submit their application by 11:59 p.m. on January 15, 2019. Please make sure to attach the following documents to your application.

  • A cover letter outlining your interests and qualifications relating to teaching, research, and service
  • A current CV
  • Copies of reprints or preprints
  • Summary of teaching evaluations
  • Research and teaching statements
