The Department of Psychological Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking candidates in the area of community/health psychology for a position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte has identified health research as a critical area for investment, and UNC Charlotte’s Social Aspects of Health Initiative (SAHI) is designed explicitly to identify and address health inequities in urban regions (https://pages.uncc.edu/healthresearch/). Building upon a strong and growing cadre of health researchers across the university, SAHI focuses on social, institutional and environmental contexts, as well as policies and practices that contribute to equitable health care provision, health outcomes, and quality of life.

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is strengthening its already robust social science expertise in health research, broadly defined, through a cluster hire of four faculty members. In addition to this senior-level hire in the Department of Psychological Science, the departments of Anthropology, Geography and Earth Sciences, and Sociology will be hiring, at the assistant professor level, scholars with health-related research interests. These four new hires will join current faculty in developing extramurally-supported research to expand SAHI, support community partnerships, and disseminate its contributions.

Required qualifications: A PhD degree in psychology or related discipline; a track record of publication and a strong record of external funding for research, commensurate with rank; ability to teach and mentor a diverse student population at the undergraduate and graduate levels; experience leading or working with interdisciplinary teams; willingness to mentor and collaborate with scholars with health-related interests from other disciplines.

The Department of Psychological Science, which has one of the largest undergraduate majors on campus, offers B.S. and M.A. degrees in psychology and provides substantial support to the Health Psychology Ph.D. Program. Housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), the Health Psychology Program (http://healthpsych.uncc.edu) is an interdisciplinary program involving faculty from the departments of Psychological Science, Public Health, Communication Studies, Nursing, Kinesiology, and other relevant disciplines. It is comprised of three concentrations: a Community Psychology program, a research-focused Health Psychology program, and an APA-accredited Clinical Psychology program. Faculty and students in the department also work with scholars located in the College of Health and Human Services. The candidate will have joint teaching and research responsibilities in the Department of Psychological Science and the Health Psychology Ph.D. program and will be expected to maintain a strong program of externally-funded research.
