The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) at the University of Washington offers an outstanding opportunity to join our Sports Medicine Section. We invite applications for one (1) full-time Clinical Psychologist at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor – Salaried to join an exciting and growing Sports Medicine team with long established national and international successes in the areas of sports medicine clinical care, education and research.

Clinical Assistant Professors – Salaried hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2022, or soon thereafter.
This position is expected to serve as the behavioral health specialist for the UW Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) as part of the Primary Care Sports Medicine team. The successful candidate will work closely with UW sports medicine physicians, athletic trainers, coaching staff and UW ICA administrative staff. Direct reporting for clinical services will be to respective team physicians and to the ICA Behavioral Health Director. Faculty oversight will be performed by the Section Head of Sports Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine.
The psychologist must be available to meet the needs of athletes with office hours in the Stadium clinic and remote telemedicine visits and be available for consultation by phone during off hours to support athletic trainers and primary care sports medicine physicians should urgent concerns arise. Desired areas of expertise include eating disorders, substance use disorders, and interest in supporting healthy practices in the college age athlete. The candidate should be well versed in teaching life skills important to this age group including drug and alcohol use, sexual harassment awareness, and suicide prevention. The candidate must be willing to document medical care in Epic (an electronic medical record system used at UW) and have excellent communication skills with other members of the health care team.
University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The candidate will participate in the teaching mission of the Department of Family Medicine which may include medical student, resident and fellowship physicians.
Qualifications
- PhD or other doctoral degree
- Must hold or be eligible for Washington State medical license
- Minimum of three (3) years of post-graduate experience preferred
