The Counseling Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago has at least one full-time Clinical/Counseling Psychologist position available to start this Fall (2018). Position(s) involve direct service to university students (brief counseling/psychotherapy, group therapy, and outreach programming), consultation/liaison to faculty/staff/students and opportunity to participate in training of Counseling Center postdocs, interns, and externs. Position requires some evening hours and occasional weekend duties.

The Counseling Center is a comprehensive psychological services center, providing evaluation, counseling, consultation, and referral to UIC students. The Counseling Center is the main provider of mental health services to students on campus and has a strong commitment to training through our APA-accredited internship as well as externship and postdoc training programs. We offer individual, couples, and group therapies, an integrative model of psychiatric care, and psychoeducational workshops. Our services are confidential and available at no charge for currently enrolled students. We are also available to faculty and staff for consultation. The Center staff includes licensed psychologists and psychiatrists, doctoral interns and externs, postdoctoral psychology residents, and trained paraprofessionals. Key Responsibilities/Duties

Conduct psychological counseling, including assessment, crisis intervention, and case management services for students’ personal, social, or educational concerns consistent with Center policies and procedures.

Perform consultation, including after-hours coverage for Campus Housing and InTouch hotline, and refer students and their family members, staff, and faculty, as appropriate for mental health, medically-based, or adjunctive services within the university or the community.

Utilize and contribute to research/data collection for the improvement of student functioning, Center’s training programs and services.

Provide educational/developmental outreach programming for students and university community to improve coping and problem solving strategies and to contribute to a supportive and enhancing learning environment.

Supervise and train unlicensed clinical staff, post docs, and pre-doctoral trainees with regard to assessment, evaluations, outreach and treatment of Counseling Center clients.

Maintain ethical, legal, organizational standards, and multicultural competency in all training, service, and research activities.

Supervise work as assigned to unlicensed clinical staff, post docs, and pre-doctoral trainees to ensure that service and training objectives are met. Help select and train, develop, and manage said persons to ensure that a qualified staff exists to meet group objectives.

Minimum Qualifications – A doctorate in counseling psychology, clinical psychology or a related field is required. A minimum of one year experience is required. Licensed or license eligible to practice psychology as a Clinical Psychologist in the State of Illinois.

This position anticipated to have an important liaison responsibility to continue and expand the work of fostering connections to mental health services and supports for UIC Black, African-American, and/or LatinX students and campus communities. Therefore, we are especially interested in expanding the following areas of culturally competent clinical and programming expertise with college student populations:
