Indiana University Health Center (IUHC), a department in the Division of Student Affairs, seeks a progressive and innovative individual to serve as the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services.  This individual will have a demonstrated track record and a commitment to the delivery of outstanding mental healthcare in higher education.  IUHC seeks to fill this position no later than the Fall 2018 semester.

About the Position

The position of Director is responsible for the overall administration and strategic direction of Counseling and Psychological Service (CAPS), which includes the Sexual Assault Crisis Service.  CAPS is a department of the Health Center and is an integrated center that works closely with the Center’s primary care medical clinic. This position’s responsibilities include performance management of the clinical provider and support staff.  Position will oversee the CAPS APA-approved clinical training program, which is managed by a Director of Training.  The training program includes an additional 6-8 mental health professionals-in-training.  The Director is responsible for policy development and management and enforcement of those policies. The Director represents CAPS on the Health Center’s Executive Committee and the Dean of Students’ divisional directors meetings, as well as ad hoc University committees. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Leadership of CAPS resources, including psychiatric staff, devoted to its core mission of clinical service, educational outreach, and training, where CAPS has experienced substantial growth in each. The Director strives to balances these needs with the overall needs of the Health Center and works directly with the Executive Director to do so.
  • Providing direct clinical service.
  • Playing a key role in leading CAPS responses to campus crises of varying scale, as well as serving on University committees that prepare for these crises and emergency preparedness.
  • Serving on several other university committees including the Dean of Students’ case conference team (behavioral intervention team) and the faculty/staff threat assessment team.
  • Overseeing the accreditation of CAPS by three different accrediting bodies: 1) American Psychological Association, 2) International Association of Counseling Centers, and 3) Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Centers.
  • Ensuring that CAPS policies and procedures are followed and align with those of the Health Center and of Indiana University. The Director places emphasis on policies supporting our mission to strengthen services provided to underserved students, the learning objectives of the Division of Student Affairs, and those of Indiana University.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in relevant mental health field such as Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Clinical Social Work.
  • 5 years administrative experience in the field of college mental health
  • Service Provider in Psychology (HSPP) or HSPP eligible
