The Department of Psychology at the University of Mississippi announces an opening for a Clinical Assistant Professor to serve as Director of the Psychological Services Center. The Director is responsible for ensuring that the Psychological Services Center fulfills its student training and clinical service missions. The position is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position within the Department of Psychology. The Director is a core voting member of the Clinical Psychology PhD program faculty.

Serving as the training clinic for graduate students in the UM Clinical Psychology PhD program, the Psychological Services Center provides psychological assessment and evidence-based outpatient therapy services for individuals and families. The Psychological Services Center serves a diverse range of clients from young children to older adults and a mix of university students/staff and members of the broader community. The Psychological Services Center is a 3500 square-foot facility located on campus that includes ample office space and therapy/assessment rooms, a graduate student work area, an electronic records system, Zoom telehealth capabilities, and a state-of-the-art HD digital audiovisual system for viewing and recording sessions.

The Department of Psychology has doctoral programs in clinical and experimental psychology. The clinical program has been continually accredited by APA since 1973 and adheres to a scientist-practitioner model of training, with a particular focus on behavioral and cognitive-behavioral approaches. The department currently has 24 faculty, 60+ doctoral students, 750 undergraduate majors, and a recently renovated building (Peabody Hall) with labs and classroom space. The University of Mississippi is located in Oxford, which is consistently ranked as one of the nation’s top college towns. The University has an R-1 Carnegie Classification and is recognized as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the clinic, including crisis management
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) and clinical program faculty to offer exceptional applied training for graduate students
  • Work with the DCT to develop and oversee external practicum training experiences for students
  • Provide supervision for students working within the Psychological Services Center and those at external sites through contracts with local agencies
  • Ensure that issues of diversity and inclusion are addressed in all clinic activities
  • Manage and oversee clinic budget
  • Supervise staff (Clinic Manager) and graduate student clinic assistants
  • Teaching load of 2-2, with structured supervision of assessment conducted over two semesters counting as two of these four courses.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program and completion of APA-accredited internship
  • Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Mississippi
  • Expertise in evidence-based intervention and psychological assessment
  • Experience in clinical supervision
  • Experience with telehealth modalities
  • Experience with teaching and budget management preferred

Funds are available for continued professional development and the University offers an extremely competitive retirement plan. The initial appointment begins January 15, 2021 and may be renewed for up to two additional years by mutual agreement. Extension beyond three years will be dependent on available budget funding.
