The College of Staten Island (CSI) is a military-friendly, federally designated Hispanic-serving senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY). CSI was ranked 27th in the nation in a recent economic mobility index (Thirdway.org). CSI is proud to serve a diverse and dynamic student body that includes nearly 50% of first-generation college students as well as students who are immigrants, from low-income families, and/or from other historically underrepresented groups in higher education.

The Master’s in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC) accredited master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) at CSI invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule) to begin in Fall 2022. The CMHC program is focused on social justice and community improvement, training students to serve as licensed health practitioners in New York State. We expect to hire a colleague who can contribute with clinical training that addresses the needs of underserved and minoritized populations using evidence-based treatments and practices. Experience teaching courses such as group theory and practice, assessment and counseling strategies (couples and families), internship and supervision, is considered a strong asset.

An ideal candidate would also have demonstrated clinical competence with minoritized and underserved populations. The candidate will be responsible for teaching, supervising, and mentoring. They will also share responsibility for committee and department assignments, including administrative and other functions. The College seeks a faculty member who thrives in multicultural academic environments and is committed to access and excellence in higher education.

This is a teaching position with a course load of 24 teaching credits per year in addition to expectations of departmental service. There is no expectation of research or publication. The position of lecturer is tenure-bearing through what is called a “certificate of continuous employment” (CCE) after a positive sixth annual reappointment.

The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their leadership, community service, and/or lived experiences.
