Suffolk University invites qualified candidates to apply for Staff Psychologist/Multicultural Trainer opening. The Staff Psychologist/Multicultural Trainer is responsible for planning, facilitation and implementation of training/professional development for interns and CHW staff regarding multicultural counseling and related issues, including the Center’s Multicultural Dialogue Series. Additional responsibilities involve direct psychological counseling, crisis intervention services, psycho-educational outreach programs and doctoral intern supervision as a member of the training team for the Center’s APA-Accredited Internship Program.

Primary/Principal Responsibilities:

– Provides short-term psychological counseling services to students in individual and group modalities; clinical psychological assessments, development of short-term treatment plans, urgent behavioral risk assessments in walk-in hours, case management and off-campus referrals are components of this work. Provides consultation to faculty, staff and students in order to address student high risk behaviors and student/community holistic health concerns.

– Plans, facilitates and implements training/professional development for doctoral interns and CHW staff regarding multicultural counseling and related issues, including the Center’s Multicultural Dialogue Series.

– Assists in the supervision and training of doctoral interns in Center APA approved program, including weekly and as needed trainee supervision meetings, regular trainee digital recording and case note reviews, seminar presentations and service as a member of the training committee.

– Serves in the center-wide, after-hours, on-call rotation system in conjunction with ProtoCall Services, a contracted professional mental health on-call service. Provides campus psychological support services as needed during times of campus crises and/or psychological emergencies.

– Provides psycho-educational and holistic health outreach programs to students, faculty and staff in collaboration with the Center’s Outreach Team.

– Maintains timely and thorough client contact documentation compliant with Center policies and procedures and applicable state laws.

– Attends Center and Student Affairs Division meetings and professional development programs.

Requirements/Qualification:

  • D., Ed.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology.
  • Completion of an APA accredited internship.
  • Current license as a psychologist in Massachusetts (or licensed in another state and license-eligible in Massachusetts within 4 months)
  • A minimum of two post -licensure years of clinical/counseling experience in the field of Psychology with counseling work on a college or university campus preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating trainings and discussion in multicultural counseling and related topics.
  • Interest in the application and integration of social justice in counseling center work.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement outreach programs.
  • Training and experience in providing short-term psychotherapy, group therapy and crisis response for multi-culturally diverse adolescents and young adults, preferably with college and university students.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and treat students with a broad range of diagnoses.
  • Strong student service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and train doctoral interns.
  • Availability to attend occasional evening or weekend activities and/or provide a program.
  • Maintain ethical/professional conduct and interaction with all University community.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective psychological consultation and leadership to all campus constituents (faculty, staff and students).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in the integration of technology in psychological practice
  • Interest and knowledge regarding group counseling in university psychological services.
  • Proficiency in a second language.

Additional Information

This is a 12 month, full-time salaried position. Due to clinical/campus emergencies or an occasional evening program, psychologists may work beyond regularly scheduled office hours.
