The Towson University Counseling Center is accepting applications for the full-time position of Assistant Director for Outreach, Media, and Prevention. The Counseling Center provides a range of direct and outreach services. The Assistant Director for Outreach will provide oversight of comprehensive mental health and wellbeing outreach programming to the university and its students.
The ideal candidate will provide training and supervision to staff and trainees about mental health and wellbeing outreach and consultation. We seek an individual experienced in developing and implementing psychoeducational programming with excellent organizational and communication skills. This individual will also provide collaborative leadership to promote a well-functioning Counseling Center and a healthy campus.

Responsibilities and Duties
Leadership of Outreach and Consultation Services: Responsible for coordination and oversight of Counseling Center outreach and consultation programs and activities including diversity initiatives, peer education programs, psycho-educational, and wellness/health issues. Establish protocols, procedures and policies related to Counseling Center outreach that are consistent with the University and Student Affairs strategic vision and Counseling Center mission and vision. Ensure compliance with protocols, procedures, and policies. Assess and revise protocols, procedures, and policies on at least an annual basis. Manages outreach budget; oversees expenditures of other staff members related to outreach.
Leadership of Social and Digital Media Programming: Provide leadership in the coordination of the Counseling Center’s recorded and online programming, social media, website, and the center’s online presence, including developing and implementing appropriate policies and procedures in the coordinated area, tracking utilization, evaluating programs and services, and serving as a resource to Counseling Center staff contributors. Supervise staff and graduate assistants in these endeavors.
Psychological Services: Provides psychological services to students and consultation to faculty and staff on both a regular and emergency basis, and when necessary, during non-traditional hours, including but not limited to crisis-intervention, assessment, counseling, treatment, and clinical consultation in individual and group formats. Provides clinical consultation to students and their families, and to the campus in support of the mental health of the campus. Collaborates in Counseling Center efforts to provide services in new and creative ways. Adheres to agency standards regarding case management, documentation, and parameters of service.
Collaboration in Counseling Center Management: Collaborate with Director and other Counseling Center leadership in the overall direction and management of the Counseling Center. Serve as a member of the appropriate Counseling Center management team or teams. Administratively supervise other Counseling Center staff as assigned. Supervise staff on their outreach planning and implementation. Serve as Acting Director of the Counseling Center when delegated to that role, providing leadership according to the Counseling center mission and priorities. Participate in various agency maintenance activities, such as accreditations and team building.
Training & Supervision: Contribute to the Center’s intern and extern training programs by conducting seminars that provide training and oversight regarding trainee outreach activities. Provide regular supervision to interns on their outreach projects. Participates in the range of activities necessary to maintain Counseling Center training programs.
Outreach and Consultation: Provide outreach programming as assigned, including psychoeducation, health education and consultation in the Counseling Center Outreach Program and assisting with recorded and online forms of programs and applications, including self-help resources, and Counseling Center web pages.
Student Affairs and University-Wide Participation: Participate in the Student Affairs Division and the University mission in a variety of ways, such as collaborating with other departments on campus, attending university functions, and serving on task forces and committees as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Training and education in a mental health field.
- Must possess either an M.A., M.S., Ph.D., or Psy.D in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
- Must be eligible to achieve licensure in Maryland for independent provision of mental health clinical services.
- Candidate must pass any required licensure exams within six months of hire or for master’s level candidates, accrue required hours for full licensure within three years of hire, accrue required hours for full licensure within three years of hire.
- At least three years of professional work experience, preferred experience in a college or university counseling center.
A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary is $90,000. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
