The Assistant Director of Counseling/ Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives serves a critical role for the Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) and the Division of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) at OHIO University. This position will create, manage, and operate a vision both at CPS and D&I to facilitate mental health services (treatment and prevention) for historically underrepresented students at OHIO. The Assistant Director of Counseling/ Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives works closely with CPS staff and all D&I offices (Multicultural Center, Pride Center, Women’s Center, Office of Inclusion at HCOM, and D&I main office) as well as collaborate with other campus units such as the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. The Assistant Director of Counseling /Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives is a licensed practitioner, a strong generalist in orientation, specialized and demonstrates competencies in clinical work including crisis management, and mental health consultation to students, faculty, and staff. This position has training and experience in working with underrepresented student populations. The Assistant of Counseling/Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives provides direct clinical services to students including crisis management, and mental health consultation to students, faculty, and staff as well as provide training and supervision of doctoral interns, graduate assistants, and trainees in their development of clinical and multicultural competencies. Reporting to the Director, this position requires an innovative leader who is able to build upon current initiatives and develop new pathways. Duties include:

- Clinical Services: Provide individual, couple and group counseling, conduct initial intake and triage assessments and psycho-diagnostic assessments, crisis interventions, and after-hours’ response. Timely completion of all clinical documentation. Be inclusive, equity-oriented, and diversity-aware. - Diversity & Inclusion Liaison: This position works in collaboration with the D&I offices of Multicultural Center, Pride Center, Women’s Center, Office of Inclusion at HCOM and other related programs within the office of D&I to develop strategic initiatives to address mental health needs of minority students. Regular contact with the directors of these offices, planning and implementing mental health related programming to students affiliated with these offices, being available to provide mental health consultation to these offices and work closely with CPS staff in treatment collaborations. This position will collaborate with other CPS staff in developing and implementing programming impacting mental health of diverse student population.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Provide leadership in integrating quality improvement and assessment diversity services offered through CPS. Support and lead efforts to create a culture in which data and information are both valued and utilized for reporting and decision-making. Analyze process flows and CPS diversity initiatives to identify barriers and inefficiencies and to ensure a high quality experience. Routinely collaborates with department staff to assess quality, understand users and needs and improve the experience. Articulate the logic and impact of decisions on groups of people, institutional structures and implications for practice. Use data to explain values and processes that lead to organizational improvement.
- Leadership & Communication: Provide leadership in the area of diversity and inclusion at CPS and active contributor to the Division of Student Affairs. Works directly with the Director of CPS and other members of the department leadership team to establish strategic goals, assess initiatives, and make decisions related to diversity vision, goals and objectives. Identify diversity training gaps at the center and recommend to the director the necessary diversity training of staff. Serves on department, division, and/or university committees and projects as assigned. Promote and facilitate effective communication and collaborative efforts across all department, division, university and community partners. Maintain current knowledge of the University, its environment, purpose and affairs, and be prepared to respond to appropriate diversity related issues. Actively participate in professional development opportunities when available and maintain knowledge of current trends and best practices within area of responsibility
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in counseling field
- Must be licensed as a Counselor or a Psychologist or eligible to be licensed within 12 months of hire
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in providing counseling and psychological services is required.
- Must have significant training in providing individual and group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and psychological assessment of college or adult population.
- The ability to provide mental health educational programming and consultation for faculty and staff is essential.
- A strong commitment to diversity and multicultural competency. Ability to work with a full range of mental health challenges including mood disorders, substance abuse, personality disorders, eating disorders, ADHD, and post-traumatic stress illnesses. The ability to provide mental health consultation for faculty and staff is essential. Has the knowledge and understanding of the developmental issues of college students.
