The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University (ASU) is seeking three full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track faculty in Psychology (Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor rank) to teach in the digital immersion (online) undergraduate and graduate psychology programs with a start date in August 2024. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Statistics and Research Methods; Cognitive Psychology; Developmental Psychology; Positive Psychology; Sports Psychology; and/or Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience teaching writing-intensive courses. 

Teaching loads for these positions are typically 12 credits per semester (a 4/4 load), with the possibility of summer teaching. In addition to teaching, the faculty member must commit to providing service to the program, school, and university as part of their workload.

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences offers 15 majors, six programs, six certificates, and 11 minors. The digital immersion programs continue to grow, with anticipated additions of concentrations in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Sports Psychology.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Provide undergraduate and graduate-level instruction in relevant fields. Instruction is primarily online, with some opportunities through program collaborations for in-person instruction.
  • Develop, maintain, and update course materials as appropriate to the field and modality.
  • Coordinate regular training and supervision of graduate student teaching assistants.
  • Participate in service to the school, college, university, community, and/or profession as needed.

To be considered for an Associate Teaching Professor position, candidates must have at least five years of relevant teaching experience and have successfully gone through the promotion process at another institution.

 

Qualifications 

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate or terminal degree in psychology or closely related field at time of appointment  

Desired Qualifications:  

  • Demonstrated ability to teach broadly in psychology. The capacity to teach broadly across a variety of courses in psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate level is preferred. 
  • Two or more years of teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level in the field of psychology. One or more years of experience teaching asynchronous, large-format online classes is preferred. We are also interested in candidates with the demonstrated ability to teach writing-intensive courses online. 
  • Experience in online instruction, course development, and modification using learning management systems such as Canvas
  • Educational background and/or research or clinical experience in one or more of the following areas: Statistics and Research Methods; Cognitive Psychology; Developmental Psychology; Positive Psychology; Sports Psychology; and/or Industrial/Organizational Psychology
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including first-generation college students
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students beyond the classroom (e.g., research projects, honors theses, teaching assistants). 
  • Familiarity with training and supervising teaching assistants
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development. Past professional development related to online learning is preferred.
