The Counseling Psychology Program at Wayne State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Counseling Psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Counseling Psychology Program at Wayne State University strives to embed and integrate multiculturalism and issues addressing diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and justice throughout our training system. The Program adopts a Scholar-Practitioner training model in the education and practice of psychology. The master’s and PhD programs in Counseling Psychology reside in Educational Psychology (EDP), within the Division of Theoretical & Behavioral Foundations (TBF), in the College of Education (COE).

The Counseling Psychology Program is seeking faculty to join our community in preparing and educating psychologists who are scientifically informed, ethically mindful, and use empirically grounded approaches in their research and professional work, contributing to the knowledge base of Counseling Psychology.

Essential Functions:

The ideal candidate must have the ability to develop and maintain a productive research program, mentor, and advise graduate students, and has a strong record of teaching at the graduate level.

Additional duties will include University, College, and Department service, teaching, mentoring and advising students, service on dissertation committees, clinical supervision of students, maintaining a productive line of research, and engagement in assessment activities in support of accreditation. Further, we seek a colleague who works collaboratively, collegially, and respectfully to promote the mission of the College of Education, the broader Wayne State University and our Detroit community.

Minimum Qualifications:

We are seeking a rising scholar whose work extends and strengthens the expertise of the current faculty in the broadly defined areas of multicultural and community psychology, social justice, mental health recovery and wellness, health equity and working with diverse communities.

Applicants must have earned a doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from an APA- accredited program and be eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan as a psychologist.

The ideal candidate must have the ability to develop and maintain a productive program of research and scholarship, with emphasis on clinical or community-based research, and evidence of published scholarship and presentations.

Candidates must have the ability to mentor and advise graduate students, chair doctoral dissertations, and have a strong record of teaching at the graduate level.

Important review criteria include evidence of a commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and an eagerness to embody the mission of the College of Education and Wayne State University.

The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and service will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the Wayne State University community and who share a communitarian perspective in engaging with colleagues, students, professionals, and others in the larger academic and Detroit community.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with background/expertise in clinical supervision, teaching counseling psychology, research and/or teaching in social justice and multicultural psychology, and/or psychological assessment.
