The Department of Psychology at Denison University invites applications for a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor. We seek candidates who have evidence of approaching problems from multiple theoretical perspectives and who have teaching and scholarly interests in the areas of a) cultural psychology or b) environmental psychology or c) the social determinants of health. Preference will be given to candidates whose area(s) of research or expertise focus(es) on the understanding, prevention, and/or solution of individual and social problems. The successful candidate will be expected to teach content and research courses at the undergraduate level, including Introductory Psychology, Research Methods and Statistics, and junior-senior level courses in an area of expertise. The typical teaching load is 5 courses per year. At the time of appointment (August 2018), candidates must have a Ph.D. in psychology or a closely related field.

We seek applicants who demonstrate the following qualifications: Evidence of a commitment to teaching excellence and/or evidence of successful undergraduate teaching; a clear motivation to mentor undergraduates in a liberal arts setting; evidence of research productivity in psychological science and the potential to develop a productive research program that involves undergraduates; and a commitment to contribute actively to the growth of the Department and College. The candidates’ statements on teaching, research, and diversity will be carefully reviewed for evidence of these qualities. We will consider the extent to which each candidate’s research perspective complements those currently represented in the department. We will also consider experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers to academic success, and activities the candidate proposes implementing that would enhance the college’s inclusive excellence.
