Position Summary

Michigan State University actively promotes a dynamic research and learning environment in which qualified individuals of differing perspectives and cultural backgrounds pursue academic goals with mutual respect and shared inquiry.

The Department of Psychology at Michigan State University is seeking to recruit a faculty member with expertise in personality psychology for a tenure system appointment at the assistant professor level starting in Fall of 2023. The ideal candidate will have established a strong program of visible research, a history of (or clear potential for) external funding, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in a) undergraduate and graduate teaching, and b) diversity, equity, and inclusion. We seek a candidate who studies personality processes broadly defined, and we are particularly interested in applicants who work from a lifespan perspective and who use sophisticated methodological techniques  that allow for the exploration of the ways that personality processes unfold across time and shape important life outcomes. Methodological approaches could include expertise in quasi-experimental designs and contemporary approaches to causal inference, quantitative longitudinal methods used to test developmental processes, behavioral genetic designs used to identify transactions between individual and environmental influences, large-scale panel approaches for estimating population effect sizes net confounds, or other multivariate methods that incorporate critical cultural, relational, and identity processes that shape how individual differences are associated with important life outcomes. However, the ideal candidate may well have substantive and methodological interests related to personality outside of those areas listed. Applications from candidates with a demonstrated commitment to open-science practices are encouraged.

The candidate recruited for this position would join an active, intellectually diverse, and productive Department of Psychology.
