The Counseling Center is seeking an Associate Director of Clinical Training in Psychology to oversee the administration and development of the Counseling Center’s Training Program. The Associate Director will be responsible for the selection and clinical supervision of trainee staff; will liaise with trainees’ home institutions and accreditation associations to ensure compliance; and will contribute to the curriculum and teaching of clinical and didactic seminars in collaboration with the training and consulting clinical faculty. The Associate Director of Clinical Training reports to and collaborates with the Director of Counseling on all levels of the training program to maintain its scholarly-practitioner model. The Associate Director of Clinical Training also provides clinical services as needed and collaborates closely with the Center’s supervising clinicians, as well as faculty and administration to support the Institute’s strategic plan.

On a typical day you will be required to:

  • Supervise trainees on all levels of clinical services including intake assessments, treatment planning and disposition, crisis intervention, referrals, and on-going individual and group therapy
  • Organize didactic seminars, curriculum, and case conferences for trainees and contribute to weekly didactic and clinical seminar for trainee staff
  • Create and maintain collaboration with invited speakers for the training program
  • Conduct monthly Training Faculty meetings to review trainee progress
  • Manage self-study review for APPIC and adhere to APA standards for accreditation, and manage other directories as a means to recruit training candidates

Qualifications:

Education: Doctorate in psychology, clinical, counseling or a related field strongly preferred with additional experience teaching and supervising other clinicians.

Experience: Must have a minimum of 7 years of supervisory experience with a primary psychodynamic focus for doctoral trainees at different stages of development. The ideal candidate is an experienced, licensed psychologist interested in leadership and participation in the development of a growing training program based in a university counseling center. Scholarly research and teaching in the context of a training program is strongly desired. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the adolescent and young adult population. Experience in higher education is a plus.

Skills: Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher education, as well as demonstrated level of cultural competence.
