Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at UC Santa Cruz is recruiting for a Licensed Psychologist, Generalist to provide students with a wide range of mental health and wellness services as well as preventative outreach and consultation services. CAPS, a unit within Student Health and Wellness (SHW) is committed to providing culturally appropriate services to our diverse student body with a particular focus on serving our marginalized and underrepresented students. CAPS provides both in-person and tele-mental health services and staff have the option of a hybrid work schedule. The Licensed Psychologist, Generalist is a Partial Year Career position. A Partial Year Career position is established to accommodate foreseeable seasonal fluctuations in operational need and contains regularly scheduled non-work periods during which the Licensed Psychologist remains an employee and retains health benefits, but is not at work. Please note that the non-work period for a Partial Year Career position is for 4 weeks during the summer and is unpaid time off.

SHW employs approximately 120 staff including physicians, psychiatrists, case managers, lab scientists, pharmacists, nurses, radiologists, and many other clinical and administrative staff.

The Licensed Psychologist, Generalist reports to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and is assigned duties by the Director as specified herein. The Licensed Psychologist will provide high quality clinical services; community psychology/outreach and consultation services; and may provide supervision/training of doctoral interns and post-doctoral fellows. In discharging these duties the Licensed Psychologist is expected to be keenly sensitive to issues of gender, culture, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disabilities, socio-economic status, etc. and to be skilled with techniques for counseling students with diverse backgrounds.
All the Licensed Psychologist’s activities are performed within the limits of standards and ethical principles of the California Board of Psychology, as well as, applicable legal mandates for mental health professionals in the State of California.
Salary Information: Salary Range: $7,950.68 – $9,314.40 / month for 11 months. Salary commensurate with years of licensed experience as well as specialized skills and qualifications.

- Provides brief counseling and psychotherapy with undergraduate and graduate students (individuals and couples) with a broad range of psychological problems
- Provides crisis assessment and crisis intervention
- Provides case management and referral services
- Conducts group counseling and psychoeducational groups, and drop-in groups
- Consults with students, faculty, and staff regarding issues that affect the developmental and psychological well-being of students in the university community
- Consults and collaborates with psychiatrists, physicians, campus entities (i.e. Slug Support, Disability Resource Center, and others) and off-campus mental health professionals, social agencies, and community resources to meet the mental health needs of students
- Determines the need for other professional interventions and refers as necessary
- Provides supervision and training of doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows as needed
- Develops and implements outreach programs, trainings, and class presentations

- All licensed staff will provide consultation for the After Hours Crisis Service as scheduled

- Functions as a community psychologist and a consultant to faculty, staff, residential life staff, and other units on campus regarding collaboration and program development for outreach and training to enhance the mental health and psychological well-being of students and the campus community
- Participates regularly in a cooperative and professional manner in efforts to maintain and upgrade the quality of service of the CAPS unit by participating in CAPS committees and workgroups and by collaborating with other licensed psychotherapists, college administrators, staff, and faculty in program development, committee work, and consultation
- Promotes a safe and healthy workplace and effectively responds to injuries that occur

- Valid California licensure, in good standing, in Psychology OR Valid out of state licensure, in good standing, in Psychology
- Demonstrated clinical experience with individuals using a brief therapy model
- Demonstrated strong clinical and crisis management skills, including ability to work with high acuity students with complex mental health needs
- Experience facilitating psychotherapy and psycho-educational groups
- Demonstrated experience providing culturally affirming and responsive clinical services for a diverse client population
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues in the delivery of psychological services in a university or college setting
- Demonstrated expertise with developmental and mental health issues of late adolescence
- Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and to effectively collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds
