ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Founded in 1980, Urban Resource Institute (URI) is the nation’s largest provider of domestic violence shelter services and a leader in supporting homeless families. Operating 24 shelters across New York City, URI provides 3,700 beds nightly in purpose-built shelters that offer trauma-informed services including counseling, childcare, case management, and more. URI’s Justice Initiatives extend support beyond shelter, offering programs in economic empowerment, legal advocacy, youth prevention, and abusive partner intervention. URI also develops permanent affordable housing as part of its long-term commitment to safety, stability, and healing. 

We are excited to announce the opening of Magnolia Gardens, a new transitional housing site serving the Downtown Flushing community. We are currently hiring for multiple full-time positions and seeking passionate, community-focused professionals to join our team.

Bilingual candidates are strongly preferred to help us better serve the diverse populations in the Flushing community.

About Magnolia Gardens

Magnolia Gardens, developed by Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) and managed in partnership with Urban Resources Institute (URI), will bring much-needed transitional housing to the Downtown Flushing neighborhood in Queens. Leveraging the support of NYC’s Department of Homeless Services (DHS), this 7-story project will provide 90 apartment units to house families with children in need of shelter, along with a wide array of community services designed to help families regain stability and move forward.

Qualifications by Role

Social Workers

  • MSW/LCSW required

Case Managers

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience will be considered

Residential Specialists

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Recreation, Childcare, and Housing Specialists

  • Bachelor’s degree required

All Positions:

  • Bilingual abilities strongly preferred

  • Experience working with vulnerable or underserved populations is a plus

  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
