Description
The Department of Surgery is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS)/Plastic Surgery trauma team and work in close collaboration with the Division of Plastic Surgery. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will partner with surgeons, residents, and nursing staff to deliver comprehensive care across inpatient, outpatient, and perioperative settings. While the position will primarily focus on inpatient responsibilities, outpatient coverage may be required depending on clinical needs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients in collaboration with supervising physicians.
- Perform histories, physical examinations, and order/interpret diagnostic tests.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications and therapies in accordance with licensure and protocols.
- Assist in surgical or procedural care when appropriate. Including repair of facial lacerations of the ED
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, and preventive health strategies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care coordination meetings.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and adhere to institutional policies and compliance standards.
- Participate in teaching and mentoring of trainees, nursing staff, and other team members as appropriate.
- Fulfill call responsibilities as defined in collaboration with the OMFS and Plastic Surgery teams to ensure coordinated, patient-centered coverage.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- NYS licensure and certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
- Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited PA or NP program.
- Strong communication, organizational and clinical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least one (1) year of clinical experience as a PA/NP.
- Experience in Plastic Surgery.
- Experience in an inpatient, ambulatory, or perioperative surgical setting
