The University of Virginia’s Department of Student Health and Wellness, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking to hire two full-time mental health professionals for the position of Staff Psychotherapist.
We are a rapidly growing center looking for applicants who would like to join our team during this exciting time of expansion. Part of this growth involves expanding our care model to serve an increasingly diverse student body. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and decreases barriers to help-seeking and are looking for applicants who share these values.
Competitive candidates will have experience and interest in working with first generation college students, international students and BIPOC students. Expertise in LGBTQ+ populations is highly desired. Applicants skilled in working with eating and body image concerns are also encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities include providing triage, intake assessments, brief psychotherapy, group therapy, and crisis services (including occasional after hours on-call coverage). In addition, the Staff Psychotherapist will provide culturally inclusive community outreach and supervise CAPS’ APA-accredited doctoral internship in Health Service Psychology. This position will work closely with CAPS psychiatric providers and serve on an interdisciplinary treatment team. The position also includes facilitating referrals to mental health services in the community.
We seek individuals who are collaborative in nature, have strong communication skills, practice good self-care, maintain healthy boundaries, and possess the ability to manage a challenging workload while promoting a positive relational and organizational atmosphere. Early career therapists are especially encouraged to apply.
