Job Overview:

A 12-month position, the Associate Director of Student Counseling position is responsible for individual counseling, group counseling, & outreach programming on issues related to student development. This position is also responsible for overseeing internship/practicum training program.

 

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

 

Clinical Services Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical services to students including: individual counseling, group counseling, crisis counseling and intervention, family therapy and coordination of care and referrals as needed.

  • Rotate weekend and evening on-call service with all Counseling Center licensed clinical staff. Responsibilities will include occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Refer students as needed for psychiatric consultation; refer to specialists as needed.

 

Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing internship/practicum training program which includes: coordinating and maintaining communication with academic programs, managing paperwork and orientation, evaluating internship experiences and assessing quality of training program.

  • Provide individual clinical supervision to graduate counseling and/or social work interns. Review and sign off on all documentation by assigned counseling and/or social work interns in client charts.

  • Develop and coordinate group counseling program

  • Assume operational and clinical problem-solving responsibilities of Director of Student Counseling in director’s absence.

 

Campus Community Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical consultations concerning students to faculty and staff as appropriate.

  • Serve as a member of committees, advisory groups, and the student life staff, and collaborate on programs, community building and issues related to diversity, mental health, and other relevant topics as assigned or requested.

  • Cultivate collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff to work together on mental health promotion efforts whenever possible.

 

Outreach Responsibilities

  • Provide outreach programming on issues related to mental health and individual development.

  • Train faculty, staff, and students on mental health issues (i.e., depression, suicide prevention, anxiety, crisis support, conflict resolution, grief, and sexual misconduct).

  • Develop and implement workshops to assist students, faculty, and staff in matters related to mental health.

 

Job Requirements:
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related field required. Doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology preferred.

  • Current TN licensure as a Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Professional Counselor – Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) required.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in counseling. Experience in a college/university setting or in late adolescent/young adult development, intervention, and wellness. Experience in working with diverse populations.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.

  • Excellent communication skills and the demonstrated ability to handle confidential information required.

  • Must possess the ability to work independently, under deadline pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Responsibilities will include occasional evenings and weekends.
