The Department of Psychology at Butler University invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professors in Psychology to start in August 2023. We seek two colleagues who are committed to inclusive, excellent undergraduate teaching and collaborative research with undergraduate students and who will be able to support our progress towards building more  inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student population.

Successful applicants will be broadly trained in psychology and will be ready to teach in a multidisciplinary university core curriculum. Standard teaching load is nine (9) credit hours per semester plus an active program of research involving undergraduate collaborators. In addition to teaching courses in their respective sub-fields, we seek colleagues who will be ready to teach required psychology courses such as research methods and statistics, introductory psychology, social psychology, learning, personality, and/or biological psychology. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated excellence in inclusive teaching and a clear commitment to supporting a diverse student body, both in the classroom and through their research.

Both positions require full-time, in-person instruction. A Ph.D. in psychology (or a closely related field; e.g., Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Organizational Behavior) at time of appointment is required. Research specialization in Social Psychology, Biological Psychology, or Animal Behavior is preferred.

Butler University offers support for faculty development in many ways, including start-up funds for research, internal grants for collaborative research with undergraduates, a learning community for new faculty, and funds to travel to present research. Butler is in the process of completing the Sally Bell Beck Psychology Suite, which will house the Psychology Department starting in 2023. This modern space includes faculty offices, labs, and classrooms and is part of the new science complex at Butler University.
